Barack Obama – Master PR Pitchman

I have never believed in the notion that the media is inherently liberal. Not while pasty white Barack Obamaguys on Fox and Rush Limbaugh and crowd tap into huge audiences with liberal-bashing tirades that are more reality-show style entertainment than any measure of political discourse. The right wing has its own very effective media cabal that rivals anything The New York Times can pump out -they have become masters of media on TV, the radio, and the Internet.

But big media’s fawning obsequious response to Barack’s big “race speech” is nausea-inducing and out of synch with the feelings of the majority of the people who more and more see uncertainty, vacillation, master flag-wrapping political jingoism in Obama. It’s a sign of a liberal media in mass-delusion – a Saturday Night Live skit that is more real than comedic fantasy. Call it a vast left wing conspiracy.

Barack Hussein Obama is a message machine, packaged and sanitized for public consumption by Barack Obamawell-paid political marketers and PR counselors, fueled by huge donations from the common folk who want to believe in a fairy tale. I laughed when Oprah Winfrey proclaimed Barack Obama to be this man “who speaks truth” – as if there ever could be a politician who transcends politics … but there are so many other “believers” beyond Oprah who are in for a hard fall.

The bitter pill of Barack Obama could be worse than the last Demo flame-out Howard Dean. This time the Demos are squandering the same goodwill the U.S. had in the world after 9/11 with the spectre of the sort of self-destructive internecine battles only Demos are capable of. If Barack Obama was ever elected, and that is an extreme long shot over John McCain, at best his Presidency might mirror Jimmy Carter’s – a well-intentioned disaster that leaves years of hard feelings and finger-pointing.

Barack ObamaWhy can’t Al Sharpton openly embrace Obama? Saturday Night Live, becoming the prescient voice of politics this season, ran a skit a couple of episodes ago where Obama sent Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on far-flung fact-finding missions so they would not by their close proximity to him bestow the insinuation that he was a radical black about to occupy the “white house.”

And that is Obama’s strategy – to be black, white, about hope, change, whatever you want him to be, what you invest in the dream that we have transcended scrappy hard-fought political battles, transcended politics itself, to walk into a room all together and agree on everything because we need to “come together.”

The crowds will get smaller and less enthusiastic for Barack Obama. The glow has diminished and now we look with a more critical eye on the person we want in the Oval office. Barack Obama is a wonderful, inspirational person who can do great good in the world. He can use his skills to accomplish great things. I hope that President Hillary Clinton finds a key role for him in her administration.

Public Relations is defined as the management function which evaluates public attitudes, identifies the policies and procedures of an individual or an organization with the public interest, and plans, executes and evaluates a program of action to earn public understanding and acceptance.

I guess Barack Obama was the right PR message machine.

Very good definition of public relations, Valerie, thank you. I was skeptical of Obama early in his campaign but I have come to appreciate his great gifts as a communicator. Those are very important skills in his position. He has a huge staff and a global, extremely varied constituency.

Ha- this is what came to my mind and then i see that this is exactly what valerie stated earlier! we should all keep this definition in mind
